🔹 Business Event Type

  • Acts as a template / category for events.
  • Defines general, reusable attributes such as:

    • Subject area (e.g., “Math 101 Lecture”)
    • Default duration (e.g., 2 hours)
    • Target group / requirements
    • Standard capacity (min./max. participants)
    • Organizational assignment (department, program, etc.)
  • No students are booked directly to the type — it’s only a framework.
  • You can create many events from one type.

👉 Example: “Computer Programming I (Lecture)” as a Business Event Type.


🔹 Business Event

  • Is the real, scheduled instance of a Business Event Type.
  • Contains concrete details such as:

    • Date & Time (e.g., Monday 10–12, Sep 15, 2025)
    • Location / Room
    • Instructor
    • Specific capacity for that instance
  • Students are booked/enrolled to business events, not to event types.
  • Events inherit default settings from the type, but you can adjust them.

👉 Example: “Computer Programming I (Lecture) – Section A – Fall 2025” scheduled every Monday.

🔹 Event Package

  • An Event Package is a grouping of multiple business events that belong together and are offered as a unit.
  • It helps manage composite offerings like a course consisting of lectures, tutorials, and labs.
  • Students can be booked to the entire package instead of having to book each individual event.

  • Bundle of Events → Groups business events (e.g., Lecture + Lab + Seminar).
  • Booking → When a student registers for the package, the system automatically books them into all the included events.
  • Dependencies → Ensures students get the full learning offering (not just the lecture without lab).
  • Capacity Control → Capacity can be managed at the package level, and then distributed to the events inside.
  • Organizational Use → Often used when a “course” in the curriculum actually consists of multiple scheduled events.

  • Course in curriculum: Physics I
  • Business Event Types:

    • Physics I – Lecture
    • Physics I – Lab
    • Physics I – Tutorial
  • Business Events (instances):

    • Lecture: Mon 9–11, Fall 2025
    • Lab: Tue 2–4, Fall 2025
    • Tutorial: Thu 10–11, Fall 2025
  • Event Package: Physics I (Complete Offering) → contains the above three events.

    • Student books the package → system books them into lecture + lab + tutorial.

1. Curriculum → Module → Business Event Package

  • In SAP SLCM, a Curriculum (degree program/plan of study) is broken into Modules (subjects or components, e.g., “Calculus I”).
  • Each module is then offered via business events, but often a single module requires more than one type of event (lecture, lab, tutorial).
  • To handle this, SAP uses Event Packages.

👉 The package groups all necessary events so that when a student registers for a module, they automatically get booked into the full set of events required.


2. Example Mapping

  • Curriculum: BS Computer Science

    • Module: Introduction to Programming

      • Event Package: Intro to Programming (Fall 2025)

        • Business Events inside the Package:

          • Lecture: Mon 10–12
          • Lab: Tue 2–4
          • Tutorial: Thu 11–12

So, when a student books “Introduction to Programming”, the system uses the event package to automatically assign them to all the required events.
